Possum Ridge - 93 hectares located 50km south of Cairns
A property with World Heritage significance
Just a 45-minute drive south of Cairns, Possum Ridge sits on the edge of the Mount Bartle Frere–Bellenden Ker massif — one of Australia’s wettest regions and most important areas for biodiversity and endemism. Most of the property is covered in remnant lowland tropical rainforest, making it a rare and highly significant conservation opportunity.
Within the Wet Tropics of Queensland, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed region known for its rich rainforests and mountain ranges, the property shares a boundary with Wooroonooran National Park and borders the World Heritage Area along a 2km vegetated frontage. Its protection will secure long-term habitat connectivity and provide climate refuge for countless species.
To purchase and protect Possum Ridge and to support ongoing actions that address biodiversity loss and safeguard our rainforests for future generations, I need to raise a total of $930,000.

More than 210 native plant species were recorded during a recent botanical survey

Seven species are listed as significant or threatened under the Queensland Nature Conservation Act 1992, including the Russell River Lime, Babinda Tamarind, Bellenden Ker Laurel, and Black Walnut

Its lower slopes support several rare rainforest frogs, including the Waterfall Frog, Common Mistfrog, and Tapping Green-eyed Frog

The property strengthens a growing network of connected rainforest refuges and ensures that irreplaceable ecosystems are shielded from clearing and fragmentation.

Planned Nature Refuge protection
Due to its exceptional ecological values, we intend to protect Possum Ridge in perpetuity through a Nature Refuge agreement with the Queensland Government.
Nature Refuges are established through a voluntary, binding conservation agreement between the landholder and the Department of Environment and Science. This ensures the long-term protection and management of the property’s biodiversity, even beyond our lifetime.
